I have been in recruitment advertising long enough to vividly remember when job boards were starting to develop. Let’s see…there were boards like Online Career Center, Headhunter.net, CareerPath, and The Monsterboard.
Clients loved to talk about the Internet but using it for their own recruiting efforts was out of the question. It was too risky. Or so they thought. The reality was that if a hiring manager did not get response from a newspaper ad it must have been an off week. But if the recruiter had opted for something as crazy as the Internet and received little response, that was an error in judgment.
We are now in the same dilemma with the world’s major shift to mobile. Well, there’s really no dilemma if you study some of the statistics.
- In 2014, the number of mobile users exceeded desktop. (ComScore)
- 43% of smartphone users look up information about a job (Pew Research Center).
- Indeed.com, the world’s largest job board, shows half of its total traffic in the United States coming from mobile devices (Indeed.com)
Mobile is not just coming…it is here. Recruiters should capitalize on mobile now by planning to:
- Create a mobile-friendly career site
- Allow job seekers to apply from their phone or tablet
- Develop targeted campaigns on mobile networks and mobile/social
As the job market tightens it is becoming more and more crucial to stay ahead of the mobile revolution. We would be happy to develop your successful mobile strategy.
