In surveying over 400 U.S. decision makers and 4000 globally, LinkedIn has uncovered some interesting insights with their 2015 U.S. Recruiting Trends report. However, the point that caught my attention was that in assessing a recruiting team’s performance companies are placing less emphasis on time to hire and hiring manager satisfaction and, instead, focusing on quality of hire.
That “quality hire” is the one that most recruiters pine for, but struggle to successfully locate and hire. If the 2015 job market heats up a bit as many are predicting, you will need to pay greater attention to the following three areas as you focus on quality hires.
Passive Candidate Hiring – As recruiters peruse resume databases, one truth becomes apparent: Top talent is not necessarily looking for a job. So since they are not out there looking for your employment message, you have to get your message in front them. In other words, you need to increase the percentage of your recruitment budget used on intrusive media such as e-mail marketing, direct mail, radio, outdoor and others. Among them, e-mail marketing is the easiest and least expensive. It is particularly effective in healthcare and education where the lists are more readily available.
Employer Branding – The passive candidates are not likely to spend time reading your company profiles or your corporate website to learn more about you. That makes building your employer brand all the more important. An active program to develop your brand will effectively communicate what makes your company a desirable place to work – just at the mere mention of your company name.
Social Media – Because the most talented individuals are likely more highly valued by their current employer, job satisfaction is less of a factor. So you might need to “court” them a bit before they make a move. A great social media program is an ideal tool for keeping the communication flowing.
We hope that your recruiting efforts in 2015 are more productive than ever. With a tightening workforce marketplace, your job as a recruiter will be more difficult but more rewarding.
